Why?
Kategoria is grounded in the conviction that the message of Jesus—the gospel—is at the heart of our engagement with culture and that this catalyses profound change in individuals, communities, and societies. We think that wise Christian leaders have both evangelistic calling and social vision. Kategoria exists to train and support these leaders.
Kategoria is a transformative 4-day program. It draws together experienced and emerging Christian leaders for a rich experience of learning community centred on Scripture and in discussion with top thinkers and practitioners. Each day focuses on a different facet of the challenge. We begin with the character and habits of effective Christian leaders; think through how we develop a distinctive Christian social vision; and end by thinking about how to share the gospel within our spheres of influence in a post-Christian context. Our goal is to give you an integrated view of cultural engagement and leadership that includes your own personal discipleship, cultural engagement, and gospel proclamation.
Why the name? Kategoria is an ancient Greek word meaning ‘accusation’. It’s the opposite of defence (apologia). In this conference we are seeking to prosecute a case—make an argument—about how Christians should live and what the world should look like when it is impacted by the gospel. Kategoria is about the questions Jesus puts to the culture.
